Can't turn "Password Protected Sharing" off in Vista Home Premium...
I think I have traced some of my file sharing exploits to the fact that I can't turn "Password Protected Sharing" OFF in Vista Home Premium. I go to Network and Sharing Center-> Sharing and Discovery -> and select Password Protected Sharing, select 'turn OFF password protected sharing', click Apply - and voila! I am back where I started. The little green indicator never changes. The other options are: Network discovery - onFile Sharing - onPublic folder sharing - on (read only , password required)Printer sharing - on (password required)Pass@$@$ sharing - onMedia sharing - onAs a result, I cannot access the shares on this machine - including the Printer - without first logging in. Quite annoying all by itself, worse when your wife and your two teens whine about it. ;-) Thoughts? Rick

Hi Rick, This behavior can be caused by certain anti-viruses and firewall programs. Please temporary disable the security programs, and then try to turn off Password Protected again. If the issue persists, please let me know if you have enabled The Guest account. If it is already enabled, but has a password set, then Guest account doesn't play the guest account role consequently, which can cause Password Protected Sharing fail to turn off. To resolve this issue, try following the steps to ensure no password has been set. 1. Right-click Computer and click Manage. 2. Under Local Users and Groups, click Users. 3. Right-click Guest, click Set Password, and then click Proceed. 4. Leave the Password fields blank and click Ok. This will ensure no password has been set. 5. After that, try turning off Password Protected Sharing and see if it works then. Hope it helps.
